Haul of the Week

If you been reading this blog for a while you might remember that I have a love-hate relationship with Chanel and their nail polish. I think they're way too expansive and that they have a problem with their packaging (look at the sticker on June, way off) and I don't think the formula is $20 better than say Essie/OPI/China Glaze.

However, I can't seem to stay away from them. I ordered a few more and they arrived today. I am wearing Beige right now and it's, well, beige. I'll show pictures tomorrow. Any requests for which one I'll try next?

Chanel nail polish, from left to right, Distraction, Orange Fizz, June and Beige.

Essie - Borrowed and Blue

Here's a very old NOTD for you, Essie's Borrowed and Blue from last year's Wedding collection. As with so many lacquers before it, I wasn't too impressed when it first was released but after seeing swatches it grew on me and I finally gave in and bought it.

Sometimes when applying polish I write down how many coats it required and what the formula was like. Which is a good thing in this case because these pictures are from February and I don't remember a single thing about the application. Well, apparently it took two coats for opacity and the first coat was a little sheer but it did build nicely. However, like other pastels the formula was a little difficult to work with and it was a little thick. Despite its less-than-perfect formula I really like this polish and I can't wait to do a pedicure with it. I think I'll have happy summer feet with Borrowed and Blue on the nails.

Essie - Camera

Once in a while I have to take a break from reading nail polish blogs. I'm one of those people that just becomes too obsessed when I do and I tend to buy way too much nail polish. So, for the last month or so I've hardly read any np blogs which meant I haven't seen any swatches of Essie's Poppy-razzi collection except for an ad here and there in magazines.

The other day I saw a stand with the collection at the grocery store and grabbed Camera and Action. Since I hadn't seen any swatches I didn't know what to expect of them. At first I thought they were brights until I tried Camera and realized they were neons.

But I wasn't convinced they were neons because the formula was beyond fantastic. The smoothest easiest formula to work with (not usually how a neon behaves) and the glossy finish is amazing. Camera looks like a pinkish red coral in the bottle but comes across very red, almost like a jelly, on the nails. It's so bright and I love it!

Update: I forgot to mention, this is three coats. And it dries to a semi-glossy finish but add a top coat and you get this glossy finish.

Milani - Mint Candy

Milani Mint Candy managed to grab my attention at the drugstore not long ago. I was bored with all the creme polish I've worn lately and was immediately attracted to its shimmer.

I think this is two coats and it was very easy to apply. I would not call this colour mint, it's more of a dark turquoise in my opinion, but it's still a very pretty polish.

China Glaze - Fast Track

Today it's time for an old NOTD, China Glaze's Fast Track. I was suppose to publish this over a week ago but than I got the flu and well, nothing got published. This year's flu was not very nice at all, a really bad, bad flu. Let's just hope this terrible coughing goes away soon so my voice goes back to normal.

Enough about the flu. I had very high expectations for Fast Track. I'm not sure why but it looked so good on all the swatches I've seen but I got very disappointed when I tried it. There's nothing wrong with it but it feels very bland to me. It's a beige polish with shimmer. Regarding the application I have to agree with Nailtastic, it's sort of thick and foamy, though it's not impossible to work with but a little weird. I think this is three coats.  Fast Track is a nice polish but too boring for me at the moment.
